Join fellow alumni to hear State Senator Dylan Fernandes, MPA '22, give us an update on the replacement of our two bridges as well as an overview of the Season Community designation that has been adopted by several Cape Cod and the Islands communities. As Senator Fernandes notes, “things change daily in the legislature,” so we will hear about emerging issues at the time of his talk.
Senator Dylan Fernandes is a fourth-generation Cape & Islands resident and the son of two small-business owners. His great-grandparents immigrated to the United States from the Azores before settling in Falmouth to work as strawberry farmers. Dylan earned his Bachelor's degree with a double major in Economics and Political Science from the College of Charleston and a Master's in Public Administration at Harvard University where he was a Rappaport Scholar. Senator Fernandes served in the House of Representatives for 8 years, serving Falmouth, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, where he passed 30 pieces of legislation into law and secured tens of millions of dollars in funding for his District. Before being elected to the House of Representatives, Senator Fernandes served in the Attorney General's Office fighting discrimination in the Civil Rights Division and later as digital director for the office. In the Senate, he serves the Plymouth and Barnstable District, where he is focused on protecting the environment, advancing housing that people can afford, and addressing the opioid epidemic and mental health.
