Karen Tewhey, CAS '98
At-risk and Early Childhood Educator and Administrator, Founder of Harbor Homes for the homeless
Karen graduated from Simmons University, has a MA from Lesley College and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. She enjoyed a career focused on educating at-risk children as the chief educational administrator at Head Start in Boston, Lowell Public Schools Early Childhood Department, New England Home for Little Wanderers, Community Care Services and Justice Resource Center. She served as the first Associate Commissioner of Quality and Workforce Development at the MA Department of Early Education and Care.
Since moving to Martha’s Vineyard fulltime, she founded Harbor Homes, a nonprofit providing housing and support services to the homeless population on the Island. She enjoys spending time with her daughter and grand-daughters who live within biking distance and with her son who lives in Virginia.
