Pippa Norris, RAE '18

Researcher, Writer, Lecturer in Political Science 

Blue MagruderPippa is the Paul F. McGuire Lecturer in Comparative Politics at HKS, and Faculty Affiliate in the Department of Government.  She has taught at Harvard for more than three decades.  An Anglo-American, her research compares democracy, public opinion, elections, political communications, and gender politics worldwide. Google Scholar ranks her 2nd worldwide in political science citations, the SSRN ranks her 2nd in political science, Research.com ranks her 7th worldwide and 5th nationally in political science, and Ioannidis et al (2019) rank her as the most cited political scientist in the world.

Her major honors include the Johan Skytte prize (known informally as the 'Nobel' prize in political science), Karl Deutsch prize, Kathleen Fitzpatrick Australian Laureate, Sir Isaiah Berlin Lifetime Achievement Award, fellowship of the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Warren E. Miller Award, Sakip Sabanci Award, Murray Edelman Lifetime Achievement award, Samuel Eldersfeld Lifetime Career Achievement Award, Charles E. Merriam Award, George Hallet Award, Brown Medal for Democracy, Doris Graber award, and honorary doctorates from Edinburgh, Bergen, Leuphena, and Warwick.

After living in Cambridge and Yarmouthport for many years, she has recently upped sticks and relocated to a new home overlooking Pleasant Bay and the Monomoy River in North Chatham.  When not teaching classes during the Fall semester, as well as writing and speaking, she is a keen gardener, and she looks after her menagerie of chickens, bees, a Labradoodle (Sienna), and two cats (JoJo and Kamala).  More details about her life and times are available at https://www.hks.harvard.edu/faculty/pippa-norris and www.pippanorris.com.
