Vineyard Veritas

Get Together and Post-Event Description.

On August 28, eighteen adventurous club members, alums and guests visited the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse in Vineyard Haven for a lunch, and an introduction to this historic Cape resource. The building was built in 1833 and served as Methodist meeting hall, a public meeting house, and finally a Masonic home until 1982, before being purchased as a theater.

The current Playhouse purchased it in 1993. The Vineyard Playhouse is a professional, non-profit, working theater. The current Director, MJ Bruder Munafo, hosted our group, providing a rich history, colored with many stories and anecdotes, a tour of the actual theater, and finally a musical sampling by actors from the current musical, Billy Baloo, a locally conceived play.

Several Harvard alums, who are not currently members, expressed their gratitude for the event and plan to join HCCC. The esteemed Rufus Peebles attended, and he too was particularly pleased for the Island event.
