Marine Biological Laboratory Tour And
Beethoven's Ninth Symphony...A Deep Dive

Woods Hole Event at MBL and Falmouth Forum

Thomas Forrest KellyThanks to our Board Member, John Collins, and The Falmouth Forum, 20 members and guests were treated to an eclectic afternoon and evening at Woods Hole. Beginning mid-afternoon, we were privileged to tour both the MBL Marine Resources and the MBL library. The Library boasts copies of notable scientific works, some from the 16th Century. Guests were able to actually handle a first edition of the Origin of Species with a signature of Charles Darwin, and an actual Nobel Prize, one of sixty that have been awarded to MBL-associated scientists.

After a short reception, we were delighted to enjoy a dinner while overlooking beautiful Eel Pond, with MBL’s Director, Nipam Patel joining us. Following dinner and a short stroll to the Lilly Building, we journeyed back to Vienna 1824, to truly experience the premier of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony as expertly recreated by Harvard’s Morton B Knafel Professor of Music, Thomas Forrest Kelly.

Our group was treated as royalty and we are extremely grateful to John Collins, the MBL, and the Falmouth Forum for this unique opportunity.
