See the Falmouth Chorale, a group of 80 passionate singers (including our own Anne Tupper, Tom Gregg and Mary Swope), perform the Mozart Requiem live, March 17th, 3PM at Falmouth Academy. Under the direction of Andrew Jonathan Welch. The Chorale will also perform the Lacrimosa of Lutoslawski. Following the concert, the audience is invited to a reception with refreshments. The cost for the performance and the reception is $18 and registration is limited to 15 places.
Mozart’s Requiem is Mozart’s last work, unfinished at the time of his death, completed immediately after his death by his assistant Franz Sussmayr. Attacks against Sussmayr’s completion began in 1825, when the so-called ‘Requiem Controversy’ erupted about “serious flaws” in it. The Requiem you will hear is a completion by Harvard musicologist Robert D. Levin based on his research, expertise, and notes since found from Mozart. “The goal was to revise...as little as possible...to observe the character, texture...and structure of Mozart’s music.”.
