Heritage Museum's STEM School
Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Irish Village at the Emerald Resort, Hyannis
MIT has extended an invitation to the Harvard Club of Cape Cod to a luncheon and presentation they are hosting as part of their annual 2024 meeting.
The Sandwich Heritage Museums and Garden, as you would expect, host a wide range of displays and activities highlighting aspects of Cape Cod. But wait, they also run a unique STEM oriented school: the 100 Acre School for pre-K through 2nd grade students.
In their own words, "the Hundred Acre School was created to cultivate young minds using STEM ... as a springboard to multidisciplinary learning". Their young students learn in the environment of the museum's own 100 "safe, private, and stunning acres". The students pick up STEM tools in the classrooms and immediately use those tools in their natural surroundings.
We will meet for lunch in the Cape Cod room in the newly renovated Hyannis Irish Village site in the Emerald Resort complex (the old Resort and Conference Center). After lunch MIT will hold a brief meeting summarizing last year's activities and hold their annual officer elections. Then, over desert and coffee, we will all listen to a presentation on the 100 Acre School given by Anne Scott-Putney, the President and CEO (a Harvard Grad), and Melissa Russell, Director of the School (a Dartmouth Grad).
The cost of the luncheon is $40.00 and the seating is limited to 30.
