How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests
HCCC Annual Meeting
Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 11:30 to 2:30 at the DoubleTree, Hyannis
Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School
Joshua Kosowsky, MD
In addition to emergency medicine, Dr. Kosowsky has focused on patient-doctor communications as the Director of "Introduction to Clinical Medicine" at Harvard Medical School and the co-author of When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests. While medical students, and often practicing physicians, today receive training on effective patient communications, Dr. Kosowsky believes that patients can also prepare to be a more effective partner in clinical decision-making. With some understanding of how physicians think to arrive at a diagnosis, and some thoughtful preparation for a physician visit, patients can help insure wise decisions are made on testing and ultimately on a correct diagnosis and effective treatment. He will share lessons from his book that will help all of us better navigate our complicated health care system.
June is also HCCC's annual meeting to elect new officers and an opportunity for your input on our events for the next year. After Dr. Kosowsky's presentation we had a brief business meeting. The annual report can be found here. The elected slate of officers and directors can be found here.
