Buy Tickets Now The United States is a world leader in drug development, and one of the (few) areas of internationally compared health outcomes in which we outperform other developed countries is cancer mortality.   We are also a world leader in pharmaceutical pricing, which has drawn much recent public policy attention.  Join us for this timely look inside the world of cancer drug discovery and development with HCCC member Jeff Behrens, AB in philosophy, '89.  Jeff was President and CEO of Siamab Thepeutics, an angel-funded company focused on developing antibody-based drugs for cancer treatment that was sold to a larger pharma company—Seagen—in 2019.  Siamab Therapeutics's lead drug candidate to treat ovarian cancer entered clinical trials in early 2021.  Jeff will discuss his experience and pull back the curtain on how cancer drugs are developed and funded, the role of various players in the Boston and larger biotech ecosystem, and the clinical trial process.

Jeff Behrens is currently CEO of LabShares Newton, an incubator for biotech startups.  He also recently served as founding CEO of GelMEDIX, an ophthalmology drug delivery startup. Prior to his role at Siamab Therapeutics, Jeff worked at Edimer Pharmaceuticals, Alnylam and Biogen Idec, where he co-founded Biogen's Innovation Incubator.  Jeff also founded and sold a healthcare IT company in 2003.  In addition to his Harvard degree, Jeff has a Masters from the Harvard/MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, a MBA from the MIT Sloan School, and a PhD from the Ecole Speciale de Lausanne(Swiss Federal Institute of Technology).  Jeff is also a lecturer at MIT where he has led a graduate course for the last 10 years.
