Ursula Goodenough, PhD '69
Professor of Biology
Starting out in the class of '64, Ursula took a detour with her then-husband to NYC where she received her BA from Barnard and MA from Columbia. She was back at Harvard to complete her PhD in biology, and remained as a faculty member and house master until 1978, when she accepted a professorship at Washington University in St. Louis, retiring in 2017. Ursula now lives in Chilmark, where 2 of her 5 children and their families also live and work. In addition to family pursuits which includes 9 grandchildren, Ursula has remained active in her profession. She recently completed research on lichens, published a second edition of her book, "Sacred Depths of Nature," and is the president of the Religious Naturalist Association.
